The Bihar government has made registration of all temples, monasteries and trusts in the state compulsory and has instructed them to upload details of their immovable properties on the website of Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSBRT). District Magistrates have been entrusted with the responsibility for this. BSBRT works under the law department of the state.
Law Minister Nitin Naveen said on Thursday, I had recently written a letter to all the District Magistrates in this regard. So far, data of 18 districts has been submitted to BSBRT. He informed that according to the Bihar Hindu Religious Trust Act 1950, all public temples, monasteries, trusts and dharamshalas must be registered with BSBRT. The government will take strict action against those involved in illegal property transactions of registered temples, monasteries or trusts as well as unregistered entities. The minister said that registration is mandatory to protect the property including land of both registered and unregistered temples from unauthorized claims.
